A few news and notes.

First, I want to thank everyone involved in helping to make our Halloween “Spooktacular” a success for the third straight year.

It’s gratifying to have a community event that the community really takes part in and enjoys.

We had well over 1,000 kids attend the annual event. We handed out more than 1,000 pounds of candy and 2,600 other gift items during the two-hour event.

First, I need to thank the City of Douglas and David Cota and the staff at the Douglas Recreation Department. Without their help, the event wouldn’t have been the success it was.

Special thanks also to Cochise College, BorderMart, Southern Arizona Auto, Southwest Gas, Food City, H&R Block, Wells Fargo, Safeway, FRV Metals and Recycling, Sonic, Adair Funeral Home, Pizza Hut and Brown Page Mortuary.

We want to thank everyone for their help and support and hope to make it bigger and better next year.

Speaking of events, we will be hosting the Taste of Home Homemaker’s  School Show at 7 p.m. at the Douglas High School Auditorium on Wednesday, November 14.

It is a great event.

The Homemaker’s Schools do cooking demonstrations at more than 300 locations throughout the United States. This is their first stop in Douglas.

Everyone attending the event gets a goody bag full of information and an all-important registration card. This allows them to register for more than 75 door prizes to be presented that evening.

A portion of the evening ticket sales will go to helping the Salvation Army and the Douglas Senior Center  during this important time of  the year.

The cost is only $5 per person and the door prizes will also include the food cooked that night.

Get your tastebuds ready.
