At about 5:20 p.m. Sunday a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Morris’s home, where a domestic incident was taking place, Capas said.
When the deputy spoke with Morris in the front yard of the property, Morris assaulted the deputy with a handheld weapon.
The deputy tried to use his Taser, but it did not work.
The deputy was assaulted two more times and knocked to the ground.
At this point the deputy used his service revolver and fired one shot at Morris, striking him in the upper body, Capas said.
Paramedics arrived and stabilized Morris before he was transported to the Tucson hospital.
The sheriff’s deputy was transported to Southeast Arizona Medical Center, where he was treated for cuts and abrasions before being released.
The sheriff’s department later discovered that Morris had an outstanding warrant from the Douglas Justice Court for failure to appear on a previous domestic violence charge
The sheriff’s department will continue its investigation with the help of the Sierra Vista Police Department.
