The Douglas City Council unanimously approved a motion to appoint Ray Shelton as councilman for Ward 4 at Wednesday’s meeting.

In a letter of interest that Shelton wrote to the city council, Shelton said, “One of my chief goals would be to entice small industries and businesses to come to our community. I would also like to promote and develop our community as a great place to retire.”
The council also approved a resolution that will allow the city to buy three portable breath-testing units at the cost of $1,800.
The units will help the Douglas Police in combating underage drinking and enforcement of liquor law violations.
In other action the council approved:
√ Resolution 07-515, which proposed a permanent adjustment to the 1979-1980 expenditure limitation of the City of Douglas.
√ Resolution 07-517, which authorizes an annexation agreement between the city and Lenard and Linda Maddux in order to facilitate the annexation of the North Golf Course Road Area.
√ Resolution 07-518, which approves the application for historic preservation of the Phelps Dodge Mercantile for the Government Plaza project. The staff is applying for funds from the Arizona State Parks in the amount of $150,000. These funds require a match in the form of cash and in-kind services.
