Solid Waste Management: Where does your trash go? Reduce your waste-line this holiday season! Do you know how much trash will enter the solid waste system in the next three months? Consider this: about 40 percent of all battery sales occur during the holiday season. Where do all of those used batteries go when you throw them out? You can find out at the Western Regional Landfill Open House on Monday, November 19. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, each person produces nearly 5 pounds of disposable waste per person per day! The landfill takes in nearly 90,000 tons a year in solid waste. In order to accommodate the growth in garbage, the Cochise County Solid Waste Department has expanded to a third cell. So where does your trash go? Find out how you can reduce your holiday waste-line by visiting the Western Regional Landfill on November 19 between 9 and 11 a.m. There will be a tour and a demonstration of how a landfill process works. Staff will be on hand for questions. The Western Regional Landfill, part of the Regional Solid Waste System, is located at 2595 N. Sagebrush Road on Highway 82 approximately 4 miles east of Highway 90. |
