The deadline to file a candidacy packet is Dec. 12, 2007 by 5p.m. No packets will be accepted after that time.
As of Friday, three Douglas residents have taken the mayoral packets. Two people have taken packets for Ward 1; two people have taken packets for Ward 3; and one person for Ward 5.
Both the mayor and council members are elected to a four-year term. The mayor receives a $300 monthly salary and council members receive a $200 monthly salary.
In order to be eligible for mayor, the candidate must have lived in Douglas for at least three years.
Council seat candidates must have lived in Douglas for three years and at least one year in their ward.
Mayoral candidates must be at least 25 years of age; council member candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
Councilman resigns
Ward 6 Councilman Michael Molina resigned Wednesday from the council. The resignation is effective Oct. 14, 2007. As a result, Mayor Ray Borane will appoint a new member to that position.
Borane had recently appointed Ray Shelton to Ward 4 shortly after Dr Mike Gomez resigned from that position.
