SIERRA VISTA — When some people in Cochise County wake up this morning, it’s likely they may be seeing white somewhere.

Rain and snow were predicted for Tuesday night, and a heavy snow warning was extended until 11 p.m. on Tuesday for Southeastern Arizona, including Cochise County. The National Weather Service said the snow level will be around 5,000 feet, with accumulating snows above 6,000 feet.

At 7 p.m., rain was falling in Sierra Vista, a likely sign of more precipitation in other parts of the county.

Trace amounts of rain were recorded at Fort Huachuca’s Libby Army Airfield during the day on Tuesday. The Bisbee-Douglas International Airport also saw trace amounts of rain.

At Sierra Vista Fire Station 1, the 24-hour rainfall total at 5 p.m. Tuesday was 0.10 of an inch. In the last seven days, the station has recorded 2.12 inches of rainfall.

The weather system was due to move out of the area overnight and leave frost in some areas before 8 a.m. today.

Sunny but cold weather is expected in the next couple of days, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 20s, the weather services said.

Few problems due to the weather were reported as of early Tuesday evening.
