“We are working hard to diminish crime,” he said Friday.
Ramirez, 27, has worked at the Naco, Sonora, police department for about nine years. He has held positions such as agent, lieutenant, major and assistant chief.
He said he looks forward to the addition of two more police vehicles to the department’s fleet. There are currently six vehicles.
Martin Lomeli, who was working as the interim police chief, is now an assistant police chief.
“I am trying to do my best so the town can be without problems, and help anybody who needs it,” Lomeli said Friday.
Naco, Sonora, has gone through many police chiefs in recent years.
Jose “Chovy” Lorenzo Villegas Vasquez, the town’s mayor, said he thinks Ramirez is a good choice for the position.
“He is a young person and he has a fair amount of experience,” Vasquez said Friday.
