BISBEE — Authorities are continuing to investigate an incident in which a Border Patrol agent shot and wounded a Mexican man near Douglas on Thursday.

An agent stopped a 1999 Chevrolet pickup that was transporting four illegal immigrants along Highway 191 and began to question the occupants.

The driver, identified as Luis Sanchez-Barron, 29, of Hermosillo, Sonora, pulled forward and the agent was injured. The agent shot the driver in the leg.

Sanchez-Barron was airlifted to University Medical Center in Tucson. He was discharged on Friday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, said Sanchez-Barron is in Border Patrol custody. He is currently being held in a federal facility in Tucson.

The agent, who was not identified, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Southeastern Arizona Medical Center in Douglas for treatment.

Capas said she does not know if Sanchez-Barron will be charged with assault on a federal officer or if he will be held as a witness in the case.

“We have to get all of the interviews put together and review the facts of the case and then take it from there,” she said.

" I am appalled at they way this is being written in the media. The first day it appeared in the news and newspapers it indicated the agent was dragged. A few stories later, the driver merely "pulled forward". That's ridiculous. When our law enforcement is unable to defend themselves for fear of becoming the "suspect" rather than the "victim", that's when you know this Nation has completely lost it. We need to defend our law enforcement just as they are out there protecting us. It's time to stop letting criminals get away with injuring and murdering the good guys! "

" I think the County Prosecutor needs to stay in his pay grade and let the federal Government handle this investigation. I have an even better idea Mr. Prosecutor, why dont you worry about the meth infestation taking over Cochise County and let the FBI which is properly adequated to handle this investigation do their job. "

" A Witness??? This is the man who you report "pulled forward" (try "sped-off with agent stuck in door") after being stopped with a carful of illegal aliens. Oh yeah, and this "Mexican man" you mention was here illegally himself. But he will make a great, unbiased witness, right? Is this what America has come to? As long as you have the Mexican Consulate on your side defending you the fact that you almost killed a Federal Agent can be tossed aside and you can instead be used as a witness against an agent acting in self-defense? "

    " just like i thought....
there's a possibility of him being held as a witness....
sounds like the mexican consulate has already begun their case against the border patrol agent...
so what's next? illegal aliens and law breakers all of a sudden have higher authority over law enforecement officers?
    this is getting RIDICULOUS!!!!!! "

" I am sure that mererly "pulled forward" as you refer to in your story does not constitute an officer to fire his/her weapon. I believe that the officer was in fear of his life due to the actions this driver took and did not want to get run over as was reported in the murder of a Border Patrol Agent in Yuma. Score a win for the good guys... "
