A Douglas City Councilman received a proclamation Monday from Governor Janet Napolitano for his commitments to public service.

Ben LaForge, left, receives a proclamation from Mayor Ray Borane Monday morning. Governor Janet Napolitano issued the proclamation, naming it Ben LaForge Day.

Mayor Ray Borane was designated on behalf of the governor to present the proclamation to Ben LaForge of Ward 3.

“I feel honored to be recognized by the Governor,” LaForge said. “As a lifelong civil servant much credit should be given to the good people of Douglas, who have been instrumental in my career.”

In her proclamation to LaForge, Napolitano recognized his various appointments to boards and committees and to the Arizona Transportation Highway Board, where he was awarded the State of Arizona Governmental Employee of the Year Award.

She also recognized LaForge’s longtime commitment as a youth advocate.

LaForge thanked his wife, Aida, his family and close friends and Devine guidance that has helped him lead the way and brighten his career path.
