BISBEE — Judge Donna Beumler will soon have a place to call home.

Beumler, who presides over Cochise County Superior Court Division 6, has been bounced around to different courtrooms in different cities based on availability.

But now, thanks to renovation work at the judicial/juvenile detention building of the Sierra Vista Regional Services Center, Beumler is getting a permanent courtroom in Bisbee.

Last week, Division 4 Judge Ann Littrell in Sierra Vista and Division 1 Judge Charles Irwin in Bisbee moved to new sites in Sierra Vista.

This week, Judge James Conlogue, who presides over Division 5 in Bisbee, moved over to the former Division 1 court in Bisbee. And Beumler will be in the former Division 5 court starting the first week of February.

Beumler said she looks forward to staying in Bisbee on a full-time basis.

“I am just glad that the inconvenience is going to be over with. It has been so inconvenient not only for court staff and employees but for people that need to access Division 6,” she said.

Holding court in different locations has caused several problems, she said. For example, some people have gone to Sierra Vista for a hearing that was actually being held in Bisbee.

“I have apologized over and over again. People in the community have been really patient and understanding,” she added.

Conlogue said he is pleased with the changes because for the first time ever he will have a courtroom that he doesn’t share with anybody.

Due to security issues, current policy does not allow hearings for in-custody people to be held in the old administration building in Bisbee, where the former Division 5 court was located.

As a result, Conlogue has frequently used courtrooms in the main courthouse in Bisbee.

“Judge Beumler is still going to have to do that as long as that policy continues in effect,” he said.

Now, all of Conlogue’s cases, except for juvenile drug court, will be conducted in one site. His juvenile drug court cases will continue to be held in Douglas, Sierra Vista and Benson.

“Once the dust settles, it’s going to make it a lot better and more efficient for the public to find us,” he said.

Conlogue said he hopes the new locations for the courts will remain the same for a long time.

Phone numbers same

Despite the moves, Judge James Conlogue and Judge Donna Beumler will keep their original phone numbers. Conlogue can be reached at 432-8480 and Beumler can be contacted at 432-8550.
