Portal Soup Kitchen begins Feb. 11

The 12th annual Portal Rescue Soup Kitchen Fund-raiser will be held next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (February 11, 12, and 13th) from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Portal Rescue Classroom in Portal. The $5.00 meal includes two savory soups, two delectable breads, a dessert, and a beverage. All proceeds go to Portal Rescue, the area’s volunteer fire and rescue service.


Fabulous prizes will be raffled at this event. This year they include an original watercolor painting of sycamore trees by Marge Fagan, an appliqued denim shirt with a desert inspired design by Carolyn Dearing, a photograph of The Eye of God (11x14 photo, matted & framed to 14x18 of Helix Nebula in the constellation Aquarius) by Rick Beno, a pair of Vortex Spitfire 10/32 binoculars, a pair of Stokes Meadowlark 8/25 binoculars,  and a morning of birding and botany with naturalist, Dave Jasper.

Also, two $30 gift cards from Valley Mercantile, a tool cart full of “goodies” from Valley Mercantile, $100 worth of Arizona Scratch Lottery tickets, and two cat or dog exams and vaccinations by Dr. Michael John of Douglas. Local artists’ donations include a bird carving by Bill Reinbold, a pair of prints by Dave Utterback, a print by Roger McKasson, and a necklace by Chris Rogers.

You also have a chance to win a Let’s Eat Out prize that includes breakfast for two at the Rodeo Cafe, lunch for two at the Portal Store, lunch for two at the Sky Gypsy Cafe, and dinner for two at the Rodeo Tavern (8 meals).

Tickets are available at the door for only $1.00 each. The drawing will take place on Wednesday, February 13th at 1:00 p.m. You need not be present to win.
