Know where you’re voting in Cochise

Published/Last Modified on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 3:06 PM MST

The biggest change for Tuesday’s primary election is that polling places have been consolidated. In Cochise County, 64 polling precincts have been reduced to 18 polling regions.

Tom Schelling, the county’s elections official, said the biggest impact was on residents in St. David, who have to drive to Tombstone. Likewise, residents in Portal must go to Douglas, and voters in Bowie must drive to Willcox. The reason is that there must be a minimum of 2,000 registered voters per polling location.

Schelling said his office has had about 20 calls on the consolidated polling locations, fewer than he expected. But if someone has questions about the location or their polling place, they can call the elections office at 432-8970 during normal office hours, or visit the county election Web site to find your polling precinct on an interactive Google map at www.co.cochise.az.us/elections.

The polling locations are:

• Region 1 — Cochise County Senior Center, 450 S. Haskell, Willcox

• Region 2 — San Pedro United Methodist Church, 636 S. Highway 80, Benson

• Region 3 — American Legion, 225 E. Allen St., Tombstone
