Event helps students, parents begin financial aid process

Local students who plan to attend college can get free, on-site professional assistance completing financial aid forms, talk to financial aid professionals about financial resources and how to apply, and have a chance to win a six-credit-hour scholarship and other prizes at College Goal Sunday.

Cochise College in Sierra Vista is among 30 sites around Arizona that will host the event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. Representatives of Cochise College will answer questions and provide assistance in Rooms 305 and 704; the Sierra Vista Campus is located at 901 N. Colombo Ave.

Students and their parents can receive help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which will be submitted automatically through the Internet. By filling out the form, students can learn whether they qualify for grants, scholarships, loans and work study funds.

Students who are 23 years old or younger, single and have no dependents should bring a parent. Parents can attend with their student or come in their place. Both students and parents should bring their 2007 tax-return forms, W-2 forms or other income information. Students who are 24 years old or older, married or have dependents can attend without a parent and should bring their own 2007 tax-return forms, W-2 forms or other income information. FAFSA forms, worksheets, and pencils will be provided.

Students who attend the event will have an opportunity to win prizes, including a six-credit-hour scholarship to Cochise College. To learn more, call the Cochise College Financial Aid Office at (520) 515-5417.
