On the eve of the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, on March 18th, 7pm, St. John’s Episcopal Church Social Hall, 19 Sowles Ave., Bisbee, Mike Palecek will discuss his two most recent books.

Mike coedited Cost Of Freedom, a colorful coffe-table style anthology of stories, articles, photos and poems written by dozens of peace movement activists in response to the Iraq invasion.

A short piece from the book featuring the Bisbee Women In Black will be read at the event.

Mike’s latest novel, Iowa Terror, a quick deadpan slap to reactionary, mindless post 9/11 America will be introduced and discussed.

Mike Palecek, a former peace prisoner, served time in jails and prison for civil disobedience in the 1980s and was a reporter for small-town newspapers in Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa in the 1990s.

The newspaper Mike and his wife owned for a time in southeast Minnesota was named Newspaper of the Year for 1994 by the Minnesota Newspaper Association.

In 2000 he was the Democratic Party nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives, Iowa 5th District, receiving 29% of the votes in the predominately Republican district.

Mike currently lives with his wife and two children in Sheldon, Iowa and works at a group home for disabled adults.

Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Refreshments will be served.

Area residents are invited to this free event.
