Douglas High School’s junior varsity softball team kicked off its season with three straight wins.

On Monday the DHS JV’s beat Marana JV’s 22-4.
In Saturday’s showdown with Buena the first game lasted well over three hours as the Lady Bulldogs used an eight-run third inning rally to break a 3-3 tie and take a 11-3 lead.
Buena came back with three runs in the bottom half of the third, three more in the fourth before a six-run fifth gave the Lady Colts 15-11lead. The Lady Bulldogs responded with a 13-run, sixth inning rally as Douglas regained the lead at 24-15.
Veronica Tartaglia was the winning pitcher giving up 13 hits while fanning 11 and walking nine.
Douglas had nine errors in the game.
Tartaglia hit 4 for 6 for Douglas, scored five runs and had four RBI’s. Jeanette Teran was also 4 for 6, scored four runs and had an RBI
"The first game jitters were obvious," Douglas’ coach Louie Tartaglia said. "Many of the girls had never played competitive or high school softball. The girls made many mental mistakes, but nothing that can’t be worked out with good hard work and dedication."
The coach added the three-hour long game did take its toll but the girls responded well. "The girls are still trying to find themselves and each other," he said. "They all come from different summer league teams and coaches with different philosophies and ideas of the game. But we are optimistic that we will come together and have a productive season."
In the second game Douglas used a five-run first and a 12 run second to take a 17-1 lead.
Jacque Solis was the winning pitcher giving up six hits while fanning one and walking one.
Douglas committed six errors this game.
Tartaglia hit 2 for 5, scored two runs and had two RBI’s this game. Maggie Hernandez hit 2 for 3 and scored three runs for the Lady Bulldogs. Iliana Solis hit 2 for 5, scored three runs and had two RBI’s.
"In this game the girls made some adjustments from the previous game," Coach Tartaglia said. "As a team they struck out only once. They played much more relaxed and showed good composer. Being they had just finished a three hour long game the girls responded well."
On Monday the Lady Bulldogs used a nine run first, a six run second an a four run third to build a 19-0 lead.
Jacque Solis was the winning pitcher going three innings, giving up two hits while walking one.
Veronica Tartaglia threw two innings, gave up two hits, while fanning four and walking five.
Tartaglia hit 5 for 6, with two doubles, four runs scored and six RBI’s. Michelle Chavez hit 3 for 4, scored two runs and had an RBI. Victoria Ramos was 3 for 4, scored two runs and had two doubles.
"All girls got some good quality playing time," Coach Tartaglia said. "Still making some mental mistakes but they are responding well and making needed adjustments. All in all girls played well."
Douglas will be back in action on Thursday hosting Cienega in a 4 p.m. game at DHS.
