Alfredo R. Garcia: Ward 1

Published/Last Modified on Friday, March 7, 2008 3:05 PM MST

Alfredo Garcia is seeking the vacant Ward 1 seat on the Douglas City Council.

Garcia is a long time Douglas resident.

He is married and has four children, all of whom are graduates of Douglas High School. He himself is a graduate of Douglas High as well as both Cochise and Pima Colleges.

He has spent three years on the Douglas Planning and Zoning Committee.

Why should I vote for you? You should vote for me because I will work to help Douglas grow commercially. This will not only help Ward 1, it will help all wards. I will also get involved in the financial committee to make sure all wards get their fair share.

What is a primary goal you want accomplished during your four-year term, and how will you achieve that goal? Research why outside businesses that show interest in coming to Douglas, which would bring employment, eventually decide to go elsewhere. Then try to reverse reasons, overcome obstacles, that cause this. Look into hwy building permits, continue to increase to the point that many residents cannot improve their property.

What primary goal should the council as a whole have over the next four years? Look into bringing companies to the area that will create jobs for Douglas.

What unique characteristic do you bring to the Council? I worked in Mexico for ten years and I know the importance of partnership with A.P. I am not an engineer or architect but I am very familiar with their disciplines as well as having an extensive construction background. I have also been involved in grant work and funds administration.

One area facing all communities is the Economy. What are your plans for the Douglas Economy?

Like I said before, to try to get outside businesses to settle in Douglas. This will create jobs. Good paying jobs will free up many lesser paying jobs making them available for our youth. A stronger economy for Douglas equals more revenue. More revenue means more funding would be available for the many projects and improvements the community needs without continually placing the burden on the citizens.
