Bob Fernandez: Ward 3

Published/Last Modified on Friday, March 7, 2008 3:05 PM MST

Bob Fernandez is seeking to unseat the incumbent and take his position serving Ward 3 on the Douglas City Council.

A 35-year resident, Fernandez has served the city and county in several different capacities, including serving as past president, Cochise County Industrial Development Authority; past president, Douglas Budget Committee; past vice president, St. Vincent de Paul; former Lector, Immaculate Conception Church; former president of the Maquiladora Association; vice president of the Douglas Chamber of Commerce; and precinct captain and state committee member of the Democratic Party.

Fernandez’ education includes earning a bachelors of science degree in chemical engineering.

He is married and has six children.

Why should I vote for you? I will be available to all my constituents to answer their problems. I want to help move Douglas to the 21st century by bringing manufacturing companies to Douglas proper, possibly high-tech companies.

What is a primary goal you want accomplished during your four-year term, and how will you achieve that goal? Return the city to its citizens by having meeting hours at their request and making more meetings for citizens to air their complaints.

What primary goal should the council as a whole have the next four years? Improve the image of Douglas and unite to have the citizens have an input on how our city should move forward.

What unique characteristic do you bring to the council?  A positive must-happen attitude. Nothing is hard or difficult. The impossible will just take a little longer.

One area facing all communities is the economy. What are your plans for the Douglas economy?

First-Tighten your belt - Everybody in the city.

Second - Look for the obvious - Mexico. Our number One customer is not, I repeat, is not, in a recession.

Third - Go get our neighbors in the South to come to Douglas and spend in Douglas. Make Douglas friendlier to those neighbors that we take so much for granted.
