College hosts FFA Field Day

More than 200 students gathered at the Douglas Campus of Cochise College Friday, Feb. 29 to participate in a National FFA Organization competition.


Participants came from Benson, Bowie, Douglas, Duncan, Fort Thomas, Round Valley, Safford, San Simon, St. David, Valley Union, and Willcox high schools.

They competed in agricultural business and management; ag mechanics; agronomy; dairy; entomology; extemporaneous speaking; forestry; horse and livestock evaluations; meats; job interview and public speaking; range management; soils; welding; and wildlife contests. Winners take part in the state competition March 7 at the University of Arizona.

Winners from the university event compete in the nationals in Louisville, Ky.

The National FFA Organization is an American youth organization based on high school classes that promote and support agricultural education.

The organization, founded in 1928 as Future Farmers of America, now has more than 500,823 members in 7,328 chapters throughout all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

The annual FFA Field Day was sponsored by the Cochise College Agriculture Department. Results are listed below.
