Former Councilman Dr. Michael Gomez became the city's first new mayor in more than a decade when he garnered 53 percent of the votes cast in the Tuesday, March 11 election.

There is no clear cut winner in Ward 1 with Margaret Morales receiving 106 or 47.3 percent of the vote, Alfredo Garcia, 90 votes or 40.2 percent; and Bill Wendt, 28 votes or 12.5 percent.
To win the seat outright in the primary election, one of the candidates would have had to receive 50 percent plus 1 vote.
Bob Fernandez easily defeated incumbent Ben LaForge for the Ward 3 seat, 251-130.
Ray Shelton also took the Ward 4 seat with 198 votes compared to Frank Ambriz total of 120 votes
Ward 5 councilman Ivan Huish and Ward 6 councilman Jose Acedo each ran unopposed.
Proposition 300, the Home Rule measure easily won by a vote of 1,143 to 418 votes.
The votes are scheduled to be canvassed on March 18.
