Katie and Lina Campbell were on base when Nikki Lopez doubled scoring Katie Campbell giving Douglas a 1-0 lead. Sandra Montano followed with a ground out which was turned into an error scoring Lina Campbell and Lopez giving the Lady Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.

Cholla came back with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth cutting Douglas’ lead to 3-2.

Cholla took advantage of two Douglas errors in the fifth scoring three runs off two hits and the errors as the Lady Chargers took a 5-3 lead.

Katie Campbell started the game in the pitchers circle for Douglas and gave up five runs off five hits, fanning seven and walking three.

Stephanie Ybarra threw one inning in relief.

Douglas had six hits in the game. Lopez hit 2 for 3 while Katie and Lina Campbell each were 1 for 3; Ybarra and Erika Tapia were also 1 for 3.

Douglas’ softball coach Abe Grijalva said after the game it was a well played game until the fourth and fifth innings.

The coach said his team did manage to get out of the fourth inning jam but not the fifth.

“We didn’t capitalize when we had the chance,” the coach said.

Douglas, 5-4, will be at home Thursday and Friday hosting Sabino and Nogales. Game times are 4 p.m. at the DHS softball field on 15th Street.
