A 17-year-old girl, who was found unconscious in her closet Sunday, later died in a Tucson hospital.

The teen, whose name was not released due to her age, was found at about 11:45p.m. at the 200 block of Coronado Courts.

When Douglas police arrived they found the girl on the floor of her bedroom closet, said Marcus Gonzalez, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

The police started CPR on the girl until Douglas paramedics arrived. She was transported to Southeast Arizona Medical Center, then air-evacuated to Tucson.

The teen was later pronounced dead. Douglas Police Detectives are investigating the death as a suspicious death.  Autopsy is scheduled for today at 12:30 p.m. in Tucson.  Investigation is continuing.

" it is very apparent that the family of this young girl is very upset about her death. i am also sorry for your loss. i do however find it a bit odd that they all have time to get on the computer and post their comments publicly for EVERYONE to see.... dear family, please let her soul rest in peace... stop fighting... stop turning her young death into a public forum for you. mourn her death privately and peacefully.... not publicly on a comment section for a newspaper. rip young one... " I am very sorry for the loss of such a young person. I do not know the victim or any family member but I want to try explain some ofthis. The police department has to "label" this a suspicious death until autopsy, etc results are in. Even though they might be 99% sure it was a suicide, you have to rule out everything. When these results come in then they will make the necessary changes on the report to maybe "suicide" or whatever was the cause. Now, the Daily Dispatch only prints what the press release from DPD states. "

" As this girl's aunt and also a professional advocate for homicide survivors, I understand the media's need to get the story, however the family is in great pain and reading the statements adds to the grief. Law enforcement will conduct their investigation and determine what the cause of death was, not the media. I firmly believe my niece did everything in her capacity to revive her daughter and it was beyond her skills to do more. Thank you to DPD and the SEAMC, and the emergency services in Tucson for all your assistance. Sincerely D. Gastelum "

" There must be some language barrier here because the family seems very offended by the word "suspicious." That word does not mean that we suspect the family of wrong-doing - only that the cause of death is uknown and that death of such a young girl is unexpected and unusual.

Also, you've now made her name public, which has invalidated the privacy that the family had when she was not named because of her age.

I wish the whole family my deepest condolences at this difficult time. "

With deepest condolences and sympathy for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I find myself wanting to apologize for the reckless and unsupported statements said in previous news lines. However, that apology should derive from the source of the statement and be communicated to you in the most sincere manner possible. If there's anything I can do, just call me.

    With utmost sympathy and sincerity,
