The Cochise County Sheriff’s Department is offering scholarships to students throughout the county.

“I am pleased that we are able to use R.I.C.O. funds as a way for law enforcement to give back to the community with a positive and lasting impact,” said Sheriff Larry Dever.  “Our goal is to identify young people who are willing to experience the tremendous dedications that is required for service-oriented careers and to help them fulfill their goals of merging into the service path. And the best part is we use drug dealers’ money to do it.”

The $500 scholarships are funded through R.I.C.O. funds, Dever said.

Dever said that law enforcement leads by example throughout the world with dedicated men and women who were once as young and ambitious as students in Cochise County.

“My aspiration is to help them succeed if only through the beginning of the post high school years with basic financial assistance.

The scholarship recipients are required to participate in a private or community sponsored substance abuse education program as a volunteer or mentor and to commit to remain free of drugs and substance abuse and any affiliation with gang activity.
