The contest for the Ward 1 council seat on March 11 was close between Alfredo Garcia and Margaret Morales.

At final count, Garcia took 93 votes and Morales took 110.

Since neither of them received more than 50 percent of the vote, a run-off election will be held for May 20, 2008.

Eligible voters who are not registered to vote have until Monday, April 21, 2008 to register to vote for the Ward 1 elections. Voters residing in Ward 1 have three options when it comes time to cast their vote, said Brenda Aguilar, the City Clerk for Douglas.

They can vote early in person at City Hall at 425 10th Street from April 17 to May 16.

They can also vote by mail by requesting a ballot from the Cochise County Record’s Office by calling 520-432-8354 or at the Douglas City’s Clerk’s Office.

Lastly, they can vote on election day on May 20 at the Recreation Center on 921 Third Street from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For more information on the Ward 1 elections, call City Clerk Brenda Aguilar at 364-1586 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
