Representative Manny Alvarez announces that he is running for the Arizona Senate, to continue his work on behalf of rural Arizona communities.

Alvarez understands the needs of communities, especially when it comes to protecting agriculture, property rights, creating quality schools and securing the border.
“I’ve spent 40 years working for the people,” Alvarez said. “I’m the kind of a leader who listens to their needs and works at the State Capital to get it done. If you elect me to the Arizona Senate, I am committed to bring the same passion and ability to represent you. I ask for your support to become your State Senator.”
Since he has been in the Legislature, Alvarez has worked with other members like Senator Marsha Arzberger to protect rural Arizona He has required small water companies to upgrade their system to improve water. He has worked to prevent farmers from being held to pesticide bills that are meant for yard workers. He has supported Governor Napolitano’s efforts to strengthen our schools and secure our border. “The people of my communities know what their needs are, and I encourage them to share them with me,” Alvarez said. “We have to have a voice who not only knows these communities-but who also listens to people.” Alvarez is proud that all of his accomplishments are because he listens to his constituents.
He moved to Elfrida from Texas in 1956, and helped on the family farm. As the fourth of ten children, he learned how to cooperate from a young age. He was educated at Elfrida Elementary, Valley Union High School and Cochise College. He is a member St. Francis of Assisi Church in Elfrida.
During the Vietnam War, Alvarez volunteered to serve in the U. S. Army and he has been involved with veteran’ groups ever since as a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Alvarez is a Boards Member of the Chiricahua Community Health Clinic and was recently named Legislator of the year by the Arizona Association of Community Health Centers. He has served on the Cochise County Board of Adjustments, and as president of both the Elfrida Fire Department Board and the Elfrida Elementary School Board. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club. “In my years at the Capital, I’ve acquired great knowledge of the procedures and know my way around,” Alvarez said, “This is a great asset to getting things done, and I want to continue to put that knowledge to work or you.”

Does this mean that the Dispatch is fully supporting Mr. Alarez no matter who may decide to run for the position? "
