Weekend fire destroys G Ave. business

A downtown commercial building was destroyed by fire Sunday by what fire investigators are still calling unknown reasons.


Xavier Zaragoza/Daily Dispatch The Coffee Peddler, located at 1233 G Avenue, went up in flames Sunday evening. The fire damaged the roof and the interior has been destroyed due to a combination of the fire and getting the fire put out. The fire department was called at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday and were at the scene until 3 a.m. the following morning. Adjacent buildings also received some damage. Both Douglas and Sunnyside Fire Departments were on hand to put out the flame. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The building, known as the Coffee Peddler at 1233 G Avenue, was in flames at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Douglas Fire Department arrived, along with Sunnyside Fire Department, to help put out the flames.

All together about 22 fire fighters were on the scene to help contain the fire.

The two adjacent buildings also received some damage.

Fire fighters remained on the scene until about 3 a.m. Monday in order to put out all the hotspots.

Fire investigators are continuing their investigation.
