Growers Wanted!

Published/Last Modified on Friday, March 28, 2008 3:06 PM MDT

Local fruit and vegetable growers can participate in the Arizona Farmers Market Nutrition Program (AZFMNP) and become eligible to accept its coupons at farmers markets.

Designed to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, women and children who participate in the WIC program and seniors who participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) receive a booklet of coupons that can be redeemed for fresh, locally grown produce. These purchases of fruits and vegetables support farmers markets, provide income to growers and keep consumer food dollars in local communities.

To participate growers or potential growers must attend a free, one-time, two hour Grower Training class.  The annual grower training class in Bisbee will be held on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cochise County Health Department at 1415 Melody Lane.  To participate in this training session please contact Olga Eddy at (602)542-7536 or e-mail her at eddyo@azdhs.gov at least one (1) week prior.
