Plane crashes at Benson Airport

BENSON — Authorities were on scene Wednesday night of a plane crash at the Benson Municipal Airport.

As of 11 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities had not yet released information on the crash, including the condition of anyone in the aircraft, the type of aircraft or the possible reason the crash occurred. National Transportation Safety Board personnel were reported to be en route to the scene.

Fire crews from Benson, St. David, Pomerene and Mescal Volunteer Fire Department’s were on scene, along with Benson police and Cochise County Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Staff from the San Pedro Valley News-Sun and family members of the crash victims were denied entrance to the airport.

Supporting fire crews cleared the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m., and the Benson Fire Department command cleared at 10:47 p.m.
