CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Work on Charleston Road in Sierra Vista related to the college’s new sewer line is anticipated to continue through Friday, April 4. In addition, new signage depicting campus and building plans has been installed at the south entrance to the Sierra Vista Campus and at the science building and career tech construction sites. Work to install a new irrigation system for the widened soccer field continues at the Douglas Campus.

Synergy and Social Services: Networking Non-Profits in Cochise County

Sierra Vista Campus, Room 314

 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

 Registration: $10, includes lunch

 This workshop brings the non-profit and social services communities together to leverage resources, strengthen missions, and maximize efforts to reach and serve local communities. Kathleen Heard, director of Aging Service for SouthEastern Arizona Governments Organization (SEAGO) delivers the keynote address. Other topics include the economics, legal aspects, finances, mission and volunteers of local non-profit organizations. Paquime and Mata Ortiz Adventure

 Departs from the Douglas Campus at 1 p.m. Friday and returns at 6 p.m. Sunday

 Visit the site of Paquimé near modern day Casas Grandes and tour the pottery workshops in Mata Ortiz while learning about the culture and history of the region. Cost: $260 per person double occupancy, $35 single sup-plement includes transportation from Douglas, two nights in the Hotel Hacienda, two breakfasts, two lunches and one dinner, entry fees and lectures.  6 - 8 p.m.

 Cochise College TRIO/Student Support Services and the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona present a free series on intolerance and discrimination. Brown Bag Tuesday: "Bisbee and the Winds of Change: 1900-1920" with Wes Patience

 12:10 - 1 p.m.

 Wes Patience, a local historian who will discuss how the power base changed between 1900 and 1920. Change was based within a loosely defined middle class: not the mine owners or hereditary wealth but the boot-strappers who started sending their kids to college, buying things in stores, trusting hospitals for childbirth, and reaching out for the elusive American dream.
