Quotes about library: At the library I meet famous, infamous, and nearly forgotten people.  I travel through time and into space; I sail the Seven Seas and explore the world.  I find romance in unexpected places, poetry everywhere and sometimes I even manage to solve a mystery before the hero does!  - Debbie Castillo

I challenge anyone to show me a small town library that has more helpful employees and a broader collection of books for all ages and interests than our Douglas library.  – Keoki Skinner

A little known service of our library is to search for a book you want to read even if we don’t have it on hand.  In a week or two it will be sent for you to check out.  – Beverly Sweazy.

A national observance sponsored by the American Library Association since 1958, National Library Week is a time to celebrate the existence of libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.

Libraries embody the American Dream – places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning.  National Library Week is a time to celebrate what we offer our communities and the communities that support their libraries.

In the Douglas Library, did you know that besides a wide variety of books, we also offer audiobooks on CD and cassette, music CDs, DVDs, videos, magazines, electronic databases for research and computers with Internet access?

Did you know that it is free to borrow or use any of these resources?  Did you know library cards are free for anyone of any age?  We’re also dedicated to providing personal service and assistance in finding whatever you need.  Come in today and explore what your library has to offer!

This week, the Douglas Public Library is celebrating being a part of the Douglas community by featuring stories and quotes from Douglas residents who use their library for various reasons.

Continue reading the newspaper this week to learn about home schooling resources, different electronic resources, children’s resources and activities, the pleasures of audio-books, bi-annual Friends of the Library book sales, and the library’s monthly book club.

The library is also sponsoring a food drive this week to benefit the Douglas Area Food Bank – bring in any food items and receive a $1 reduction in overdue fines per item.
