From the comfort of our own homes, many of us have become enlightened as to ways interior decorating can enrich our lives, thanks to cable television. However, most of us lack the skills and knowledge to redecorate on our own. That’s when it’s time to call longtime Douglas resident Susan Kramer, who has made her skills, professional training and talents available to area residents since joining Interiors by Decorating Den September 2006 (364-6238).

Kramer regularly tours manufacturer’s showrooms, factories and show houses. She regularly attends training seminars and monthly design meetings in Phoenix to keep current with the latest product and design trends. Having professionally decorated her own home as well as homes in Douglas, Sierra Vista, Elfrida, Tucson, Phoenix, and Laguna Beach, Calif., Kramer has gained a great deal of experience to help her clients convert their homes into a personal paradise.
According to Kramer, “everyone wants a home that reflects their taste and style, my job as a decorator is to use your personal information to help you create a home you are proud of and comfortable in. I can help you with one window treatment or help you redecorate your entire house. I am going to listen to you and help you find what will work for you, your family and your home. My job as a decorator is to organize your ideas and your taste into a workable plan for your home that reflects who you are and how you live, using my resources and knowledge of design elements and principles. I am very excited to be able to bring a complete interior decorating service to Douglas and Cochise County.”
Most area residents, however, are more familiar with her work teaching Family and Consumer Science at Ray Borane Middle School than for interior design. Kramer incorporated interior decorating into her classes for many years, sharing her extensive knowledge and 27 years of experience with her students.
Kramer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education, including classes in interior decorating and a Master of Arts degree, both from NAU. She earned a Certificate of Interior Design from the Sheffield School of Interior Design in New York and a certificate from the Professional Design School in Easton, MD. In early October Kramer further expanded her education by attending the Furniture Market School in High Point, NC.
Working as a valued member of Interiors by Decorating Den, Kramer gets to shop the marketplace and bring her clients the finest selection of custom window treatments, bedding, wall and floor coverings, lighting, furniture (both upholstered and casegoods) and accessories, all from national companies. As opposed to her clients coming to her, Kramer comes to them so they can make all their decorating decisions from the comfort of their home. As a result, her unique colorful van has become a familiar sight in the Douglas area. She carries a variety of product samples, catalogues and ideas, so clients can see exactly what looks good in their home and what doesn’t.
Using her knowledge and expertise, Kramer makes sure that her client’s selections coordinate with their existing furnishings and unique lighting conditions. From brightening one room to a whole house makeover, she will listen to your needs and ideas. She’ll suggest solutions to solve any decorating dilemmas, all within the parameters of her client’s budget. “I can coordinate your existing furnishings with new selections, all within your decorating budget. I can even supervise installation. From your initial selection to ordering and delivery, I am there for you,” says Kramer
For many people, this in-home, low-stress, convenient decorating service is exactly what they have been looking for. It saves the hassle of driving all the way to Tucson, shopping from store to store and having to fend off salespeople pressuring you to buy from them. For those who are still fearful of trying a professional decorating service, Kramer always offers a complimentary initial consultation so potential clients risk nothing.
