GIVING BIG! Former Cochise College student Brandy Milloy is among the final three contestants on “Oprah’s Big Give,” a Sunday night reality show that challenges contestants to give rather than get. She’s given away a car, handed out flowers to people on the street, organized a fundraiser for a church food bank, and helped make last wishes come true, among other good deeds. Watch next week when she meets John Travolta.


CONSTRUCTION NEWS. Deliveries and construction traffic will continue on the south side of the Sierra Vista Campus the week of April 7. Watch for the delivery of 10 truckloads of concrete as workers prepare to pour the floor slab for the career-technical building. The masonry walls will be complete around April 14, with floor slab completion set for April 23. Roof joists will be delivered soon. Workers also will form and place the floor slab for the science building addition between April 8 and April 11.

Monday, April 14

Intolerance and Discrimination Series: Genocide

 Douglas Campus, Little Theatre  6 - 8 p.m.

 Cochise College TRIO/Student Support Services and the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona present a free series on intolerance and discrimination. Wendy Theodore, professor of African Studies and Humanitarian Concerns at the University of Arizona, speaks about genocide in general and what individuals can do to confront genocide. A second speaker will talk specifically about Guatemala. Brown Bag Tuesday: “A Costa Rican Journey” with Dr. Kerry Henrickson

 Douglas Campus, Student Union Conference Room  12:10 - 1 p.m.

 Although geographically a small country, Costa Rica is one of the most biologically diverse regions on the planet. The Central American country is famous for its oceans, beaches, rivers, mountains, and an abundance of flora and fauna. Dr. Henrickson explored some of Costa Rica’s attractions and will share her adventures. Free and sponsored by the Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning, (520) 417-4772.

Lunch Lecture Series: “Menacing Mammals” with Millie Galliher

Sierra Vista Campus, Room 313  12:10 - 1 p.m.

 The deserts of the Southwest abound with animals that have a reputation for ferocity. Others carry an image of cuddliness. Cougars, coyotes, bats and bunny rabbits figure in myth and legend. In Your Own Voice: Living With Mental Illness

 Sierra Vista Campus, Horace Steele Conference Room 5:30 p.m.

 Guest speakers share their personal experiences and perspectives on living with mental illness. Participants will learn about the nature of brain-based illnesses, mental health recovery, and resources and support for individuals and families. Welding Competition

“My Thinge Is My Own: A Raucous Renaissance with Musica Sonora”

Kino Hall, 800 Taylor Drive, Sierra Vista

 7 p.m.

 Admission: Free

 This performance features the Tucson-based group Musica Sonora with Cochise College‘s “Musica Sin Fronteras.” Directed by Christina Jarvis and Lori Keyne, topics include springtime, love, Claret, love, singing and dancing, barnyard animals, unrequited love, more love and the ever-popular modern madrigal, ‘My Bonnie Lass She Smelleth’ by the composer known as P.D.Q. Bach. Composers from England, France, Italy and Germany represent the cultural diversity of popular song of the day, and a modern piece is included as well.
