SIERRA VISTA — A former Miss Sierra Vista has moved closer to becoming the biggest giver in a television program.

On Sunday, Brandi Milloy is one of three contestants on “Oprah’s Big Give” on ABC who will take the giving home.

And the giving will be able to be celebrated during a community event that night.

This week’s show will feature events filmed in Sierra Vista last May when Milloy and a crew from Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions came to town to help 11-year-old Alysianna Nelson, who suffers from a brain tumor.

That day, Milloy helped Nelson live her dream of being Miss Sierra Vista for a day, complete with a parade.

A Harpo Productions crew was at Village Meadows Elementary School to film a scene.

To celebrate the show, a community viewing party has been scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Buena Performing Arts Center, 5225 E. Buena School Blvd. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Milloy, who is expected to attend the event, has asked that people who attend the event bring non-perishable food items to benefit the Fort Huachuca Community Food Bank.

According to a new release from ABC previewing the episode, the show’s three remaining contestants must “go home to give big.”

“With four days and $10,000 cash, the pressure is one to prove they have what it takes to win,” the release states.

This is the seventh show of an eight-episode series.

If Milloy survives the round, she’ll be in the final episode, which airs April 20.

Milloy and her family have been unable to speak about the show because of contractual obligations with the show’s producers. The 23-year-old, who is a Buena High School graduate and a two-time winner of the Miss Sierra Vista crown, has been in the area recently and also is scheduled to be at a lunch event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Outback Steakhouse that is a benefit for the Miss Sierra Vista Scholarship Fund.

The mission of “Oprah’s Big Give” is for contestants to help others without knowing that they also might be helping themselves.

In the show, Winfrey says that what the contestants don’t know is that she’s going to give $1 million to the biggest giver.

This weekend also will likely reveal more to the promotional clips of Milloy giving actor John Travolta a kiss on the cheek. Travolta is a guest on Sunday’s show.

In a promotional press release, ABC says Travolta “shows up with a huge announcement that stuns both the contestants and Oprah.”

Local residents will be kept on edge as they wait to see if Milloy moves on to the final show.
