The “For the Love of Music” concerts for April 19 and 20 will include “Trio Tales” , music written by violinist Michael Fan for the Ocotillo Piano Trio.   The other 2 members of the trio are Paula Fan, piano and Nelzimar Neves, cello.  This email is to provide more information about the “Trio Tales”,

The Little Fiddle tells the story  of a little violin’s travels through Europe to find his missing owner. This is a set of variations upon a familiar theme, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”  that take you all the way from Jazz to Bach.

The Ugly Duckling is a retelling of famous story by Hans Christian Andersen. What’s that beautiful cello solo at the end? Here’s a hint: it’s the most well-known piece from Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals.

Mak and Millie tells the story of two Tibetan Yaks and their encounter with the evil Yeti. “This music was inspired by my wife Melanie’s love of yaks,” writes the composer, Michael Fan. “And ‘Millie’s Song’ became part of our own wedding music.”

Moritz the Mouse loves music, and Beethoven loves macaroni and cheese. Beethoven’s Mouse tells the story of the unlikely meeting of these two characters.

The Princess and the Frog is a wacky look at the traditional fairy tale. In this version, if the Princess kisses the Frog, she will turn into a frog instead of the Frog turning into a Prince. Will she do it? Listen and find out!
