BISBEE — American Border Patrol, a private nongovernmental organization, will hold a live demonstration of its Internet camera system today in Tucson.

Volunteers from across the United States currently operate the cameras via the Internet, thereby aiding in apprehensions of illegal immigrants.

Glenn Spencer, president of American Border Patrol, said the Operation Virtual Vigilance program has been successful so far.

“We have caught some people, and it is working extremely well,” he said Monday.

During today’s demonstration, attendees will get the chance to operate both color and thermal cameras that are physically located on the group’s ranch near Palominas.

“We are looking forward to showing the actual capabilities to people who are critical or skeptical that something like this works,” Spencer added.

The event will take place at 3 p.m. today at Tucson Marriott University Park, located at 800 E. Second St. in Tucson.
