Douglas teen died in an accident on Wednesday

On April 23 at approximately 9:30 p.m. a fatal collision occurred on U.S. Highway 191 at milepost 30.  


24 people were injured after this 1996 Ford Club Wagon struck a guardrail and rolled several times on Wednesday night.

A 1995 Buick was northbound, when the vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled. Bradley Eudy 18, of Douglas was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.  He was not wearing a safety restraint.  

The vehicle was driven by 19-year-old Dortha McGrath of Duncan.  McGrath and another passenger, Tessa Bohlen 18 of Thatcher, received non- life threatening injuries.  They were using safety restraints.  

The cause of this collision will be driver inattention

In a separate incident the following dy, several illegal immigrants were injured when the vehicle they were in rolled over.

On April 24 at approximately midnight, DPS Officers investigated a one-vehicle rollover that occurred on US 191 at milepost 13.3 about 13 miles north of Douglas.  

Twenty four people riding in the 1996 Ford Club Wagon were injured after the vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled several times ejecting the occupants.  None of the passengers were wearing safety restraints. Several occupants left the scene and were found at various locations throughout the night and this morning.

It’s unknown if all the occupants have been accounted for.  All occupants are undocumented aliens.

Seven injured passengers were flown to Tucson Hospitals. One person was determine to have life threatening injuries.  Seventeen others were transported by ambulance to area hospitals in Douglas, Bisbee and Willcox.

DPS Officers were assisted by US Border Patrol, Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) Cochise County Sheriff’s Department and GIITEM units.  The initial investigation centers on possible mechanical failure with the vehicle. Investigators are trying to determine the identity of the driver and the identify of the human smuggler.
