Two ICE agents fired their rifles at a smuggler’s truck on Geronimo Trail Tuesday morning when the smuggler attempted to ram his truck through the agents parked service vehicles.

Agents and officers from ICE, Border Patrol, and the Douglas Police Department were monitoring traffic on Geronimo Trail when they identified two suspicious vehicles.

Upon spotting the agents, the smugglers turned around in order to avoid the agents.

The two ICE agents parked their empty government vehicles on the road in an attempt to intercept the smugglers’ vehicles.

One of the smuggling vehicles turned off the road. The other vehicle, a pick up truck, quickly accelerated and drove directly at the ICE agents.

Fearing for their safety, the agents fired their service rifles at the oncoming truck. The truck veered and struck one of the parked government vehicles.

Neither of the two agents was seriously injured. The driver of the truck fled on foot, was picked up by the other vehicle, and fled the scene.

A passenger in the truck that crashed into the government vehicle was seriously injured and was airlifted to University Medical Center in Tucson.

ICE did not disclose the amount of marijuana seized from the truck but did say it was a substantial amount.

The incident is still under investigation.

" If it wasnt for the ICE Agents and Douglas Police securing our borders from the influx of drugs we would be overwhelmed with drugs. The ICE Agents are the investigators for the Federal Governement not the Border Patrol Agents who sit and wait for illegal aliens. We need our Mayor and Sheriff to step up to their responsibility and quit worrying about their images. Mayor instead of attending your political socials ride along with one of the DPD or ICE Agents during a drug drive thru. Then will u appreciate Law Enforcement who are willing to give the ultimate sacrificeforus.ThanksICEandDPD "

" We all known these drug smugglers have stash houses in town or in the surrounding rural areas (Pirtleville). We should start assisting our local boys in blue with information. Look at all the high price homes and cars in Douglas, DOPE MONEY (not everyone is making 6 figures at Wal-Mart). We need to start taking our town back. HEY! Mr. Mayor or Sheriff Dever any plans.. remember your an elected official, start supporting the community. Looks! like the Fed boys are doing all the work for you. Thanks, GUYS! "

" Good job guys. Keep doing the good work that you're doing and MAYBE someday we'll have all the bad guys behind bars. Then we can sleep comfortably again like we used to when we were kids back in the good old days. Then it was PEACEFUL to live in Douglas. "
