The folks at the Community Food Bank are experiencing a triple challenge, as the demand for food has risen an unprecedented amount, donations of food are flat and the cost of food continues to rise.

This impacts the Food Bank’s bottom line. With demand up 27% over last year, food donations flat and fuel costs up nearly 25%, all these events combine to negatively affect the organization’s ability to deliver enough much-needed food.
The Community Food Bank serves more than 40,000 people every week here in Pima County. Additionally, the Food Bank serves Graham, Greenlee, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties. Not only does the Food Bank provide food to local families, but they also serve 315 charities, including soup kitchens and shelters in Southern Arizona.
“We’re struggling to keep up with demand,” President and CEO Bill Carnegie reports. “We’re seeing new families every day and are operating at near capacity.” “We need the community’s support now more than ever,” he added.
Monetary and food donations may be made to the Community Food Bank online at www.communityfoodbank.org or by calling (520) 622-0525.
