The Gadsden  Hotel and G Avenue were filled with motorcycle enthusiasts this weekend as part of the annual “Run for the Border” celebration during Cinco de Mayo weekend. Part of the event is the annual car show, which brought out vintage autos dating back to the early part of last century. The event is one of the most popular in the area, and is one of the kick-off events for the summer.

" yea bring back our good old fashion cinco de mayo event that would be great some of our great history celebrated here in our town where is a committe for this? where is our city leaders ? how about our city council? why do we have to wait for a buiness to have a event? at least we could let vendors make a little extra money and our city could use that money they make off rides to maybe sponser neighborhood watches ,trash days or a charity here in town like the food bank house of hope or struggling "

" Bikers, Thats what it was. $3.00 beers tickets and $5.00 mixed drink tickets. Take it for what its worth. We all have a choice.

Its was something to do in this dead town and I could care less that the street was blocked off. I am a motorcycle buff and I saw some nice rides. Yeah with a rally like this you have your share of Biker Posers but you also get the real deal.

Hats off to Gadsden, at least they try and do something for a change. I don't see any other establishment doing anything. "

" This event was not a "Run to the Border Rally. The Gadsden Hotel sponsored this Border to Border event.
When SAHR (Southern Arizona Harley Riders) puts on a rally, the public is notified where that money goes. So if you are really concern about that, ask Mrs. Breckus. "

" i also agree with the last two comments seems to me the 1st yr we heard that the money went to the poor children in AP now we hear nothing and ever since this BIG PARTY for the Gadsden started our city stopped doing our Cinco De Mayo events It was one of the few events we could look forward to the food booths the rides now the only ones who get to ride are the loud bikers thinking they are special up and down our streets geez even Sierria Vista had a Cinco De Mayo event "

" i agree with the last post
i would like to know where the money goes or is it just a business venture for the gadsden?
i personally attended the first time but it was not for the family, it is just an excuse to get drunk
at least some of our kids got a drug awareness presentation on the day before. "

less drinking at event wrote on May 6, 2008 5:35 PM:

" it's great when the town has something to do but theres just a few concerns with this event where does the money go ? how much of it? we never hear of this just like the air show wasn't that for a fundraiser and why do they have to close off the streets when the Gadsden has a very big parking lot seems to me this is just an excuse for the one who runs the gadsden to invite friends in to town and have a big drinking party in the downtown streets my kids wont be there "
