Disturbance leads to injury at prison

A disturbance at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Douglas has led to multiple injuries.


The Douglas Fire Department was c alled out to the prison complex, located north of Highway 191, at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.  The fire department dispatched three emergency vehicles, which waited at the nearby airport. They were waiting for prison emergency personnel to bring injured individuals out.

The Elfrida Fire Department was also on hand to assist.

According to Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman Bill Lamoreaux, a fight started in the Mojave Unit  of the complex just before 10 a.m.

The Mojave unit is a 920-bed medium security facility.

One injured prisoner was airlifted to Tucson.

The incidnt is still under investigation by prison officials.
