Duarte joined the other Star recipients in a special awards ceremony that is intended to publicly recognize and celebrate the achievements of all people working in the selfless and heroic ambulance industry.
“The Star of Life program seeks to honor outstanding individuals as a thank you for their service, their sacrifice, and the inspiration that they bring to all of us,” said Donna Collister, a spokesperson for the American Ambulance Association.
The program honors these individuals as ambassadors of the industry so that the outside community and government agencies can value the contribution they make to the community, Collister said.
Duarte has been employed with Arizona Ambulance since September of 2002. She was nominated by the Company’s Leadership Staff for her outstanding service and dedication to the organization.
She and her husband, Jose, who is a Douglas police officer, founded the Douglas Police Explorer Post #454 in 1998. Her service to the Douglas community includes: fundraising for the Relay For Life with the American Cancer Society; Graffiti Abatement with the City of Douglas; services to Border Issues and a Youth Sports Volunteer.
Duarte holds certifications as an Arizona State Fire Fighter; Hazardous Material Operations responder and an American Heart Association CPR instructor.
Arizona Ambulance Transport is the second largest provider of medical transportation in Southeastern Arizona.
