Morales wins runoff; low voter turnout

Margaret Morales took the Ward 1 seat Tuesday May 20 in a contest against Alfredo Garcia.


Morales received 74 votes to Garcia’s 35.

The voter turnout was surprisingly low when one takes note that the registered voters for Ward 1 were 928.

Voter turnout was 11.85 percent.

The election between Garcia and Morales stems from a March 11 election run-off. Neither Garcia nor Morales had received 51 percent of the vote.

In the March 11 elections the Douglas community voted Michael Gomez as mayor.

Bob Fernandez was elected to Ward 3; Ray Shelton to Ward 4; Ivan Huish to Ward 5 and Louie Acedo to Ward 6.
