For years, Project Graduation has provided Douglas High School graduates with a safe alternative to graduation celebration, and this year is no different.

Wal-Mart recently presented a check for $1,500 to Project Graduation for festivities this weekend. Pictured are Irene Garcia, committee; Miguel Garcia, Wal-Mart manager; and Gina Tartaglia and Serge Garcia, Project Graduation Committee.

The event kicks off after Douglas High School graduation ceremonies, approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at the Golf Course Country Club.

“The event is designed to provide seniors a drug-free, alcohol-free option to graduation night,” said Event Co-Chair Gina Tartaglia.

The object of the event is to also keep the seniors at the event all night. No one will be allowed to enter after 12:30 a.m. that night and the fun runs until 4 a.m.

But once you leave, you can’t return.

Each senior is allowed to bring one guest to the festivities but only the graduating senior is eligible for the more than $7,000 in cash and prizes to be given away that night as door prizes, drawings every half hour and the big prize of $1,000 drawn at the end of the evening.

This year’s event will feature $4,000 in prizes including televisions, game systems and personal electronic equipment.

There will also be games, music and giveaways all evening.

Chairing the event is Serge Garcia and Tartaglia, and Ray Larez is the Treasurer.
