Border Patrol agents in Douglas seized more than a 1,000 pounds of marijuana from an SUV.

The Tahoe had been painted to look like a local rancher’s vehicle.
Agents had placed a tire deflation device on the road and it had flattened all four of the Tahoe’s tires.
The driver of the Tahoe fled the vehicle and agents followed his footprints and caught the suspect.
At the Douglas station agents unloaded 61 bundles of marijuana from the Tahoe. The weight of the bundles totaled 1,300 pounds with a street value of $1 million.
The driver of the vehicle was interviewed for possible prosecution by ICE. He is an illegal immigrant from Mexico with an extensive drug related criminal history and multiple removal and deportations, the Border Patrol said.
In an unrelated incident , agent and canine partner from the Nogales Border Patrol Station discover over 1,300 lbs. of marijuana at the Interstate 19 checkpoint.
Yesterday, at 9:00 p.m., a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs, in a semi-truck trailer. The truck was referred to a secondary position for further inspection. The agent and his canine partner performed an exterior sniff of the truck and again the canine alerted to the presence of drugs. The agent searched the trailer and discovered numerous bundles of marijuana stacked in between pallets of squash. Due to this discovery the driver, a 41 year old male legal permanent resident from Mexico, was taken into custody.
The trailer contained 63 bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 1,383 pounds with an estimated street value of $ 1,106,400.00. The vehicle and marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Since Oct. 1, 2007, agents of the Tucson sector have seized 566,000 pounds of marijuana valued at about $452 million.
