BISBEE — U.S. Border Patrol agents were busy over the weekend rescuing illegal immigrants in three different incidents in Cochise County.

On Saturday, four illegal immigrants were found in distress in a remote mountainous region west of Sierra Vista. Two of the individuals were showing signs of heat stroke and severe dehydration.

The two agents at the scene had run out of water, so a Customs and Border Protection helicopter dropped emergency supplies, said Border Patrol spokesman Rob Daniels.

On Sunday morning, two BORSTAR agents, who are part of the Border Patrol’s search, trauma and rescue team, arrived at the location. They hooked up intravenous drip feeds to the individuals to rehydrate them.

The four illegal immigrants were transported to Naco for processing. One of them — a 25-year-old female from Guatemala — claimed to be three months pregnant and is being processed for expedited removal. The other three individuals, who were from Mexico, were processed and voluntarily returned.

Daniels said this incident is a perfect example of how agents risk their own lives to help illegal immigrants.

On Saturday at 2:30 p.m., agents responded to a call regarding a group of 10 illegal immigrants spotted near an Arizona Department of Transportation weigh station along Highway 80 near Douglas.

Members of the group had been abandoned by their guide about two days prior east of Douglas. They were all severely dehydrated. Agents were also able to find two additional individuals who were separated from the group and were severely dehydrated.

At about 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Border Patrol coordinated rescue efforts between Lordsburg, N.M., and Douglas to get a 27-year-old female illegal immigrant to emergency medical treatment. The woman was transferred from the Douglas hospital to Tucson for additional treatment Sunday morning.

In another incident on Saturday, seven illegal immigrants were picked up in a vehicle north of the Mule Pass Tunnel near Bisbee. They were taken into custody. During fingerprint checks, officials discovered that one individual was the member of the Sureno street gang.
