Summer sweeps in with great events!  June 14, Juneteenth Celebration, Sierra Vista

A celebration of freedom, hope and harmony between cultures and generations, presented by the Greater Huachuca Area Branch of the NAACP will feature free food, fun, games, entertainment and an old fashioned dress parade. The Spirit of the Buffalo Soldiers awards will be presented.

June 18, Evening San Pedro River Hike, Sierra  Vista

June 20, Guided Hike into Coronado Cave, Sierra  Vista

Explore the subterranean desert at Coronado National Memorial’s natural limestone cave. Complete with stalagmites and stalactites, these will delight spelunkers. Bring at least one flashlight and wear sturdy hiking shoes. The cave entrance can be difficult to access and may not be suitable for all. Participants should dress comfortably for the weather, bring a hat, sunscreen and water.

Learn about the accomplishments and history of Fort  Huachuca’s famous Buffalo Soldiers from members of the Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers. The guided tours will begin at the Fort  Huachuca Museum and proceed to various historic sites on the post.

Note: The post is an active military installation. Visitor passes are available to US citizens at the Main Gate with a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance (or rental vehicle agreement). All passengers over 13 must have photo identification.

Play Ball! Exhibit Showcases County Baseball History, Sierra Vista

View fascinating aspects of the southeastern Arizona’s baseball legacy at the Henry F. Hauser Museum’s “Cochise County Baseball Histories.” This traveling exhibit, compiled by Museum Association of Cochise County members, provides an historical look at the earliest teams fielded by mining camps, the military and youths.
