Bird Walks

The Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park (EOP), also known as the waste water treatment plant, is open for bird walks each Sunday morning.
The walks take about 2 hours and are led by docents from Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory (SABO), Huachuca Audubon Society (HAS) and the Friends of the San Pedro River (FSPR).
The next walks begin at 7 a.m. June 1 and June 8 and depart from the viewing platform inside the EOP. The entrance is located on SR 90 between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. All tours are FREE, although SABO, HAS and FSPR all accept donations.
The walks are limited to 20 people and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Special walks for large groups and walks on days other than Sunday can be arranged. Contact Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory (SABO) at (520) 432-1388 for more information.
San Pedro River Walks
Join docents from the Friends of the San Pedro River on an interpretive walk along the river June 7 and June 14. The walks depart from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista at 8:00am.
The San Pedro River features some of the richest wildlife habitat in the United States. Here you’ll find 82 species of mammals, dozens of reptiles and amphibians and nearly 350 species of birds. It is the last free flowing river in the Southwest and has been designated one of the Last Great Places by the Nature Conservancy.
There is no charge for the walks, however donations are accepted to support the docent programs. Dress appropriately for the weather, bring drinking water and use sun protection. For more information call (520) 459-2555.
River Hike on June 14
Join Friends of the San Pedro for a hike along the river June 14. Meet at the Palominas Bridge Parking area at 7am. The parking area is on the southeast side of the intersection of Highway 92 and the San Pedro River. Bring lots of water, food and sun protection for this strenuous 10 mile hike. Fee is $5 per person and proceeds support educational programs of the Friends of the San Pedro. For more information call 520.459.2555.
The Friends of the San Pedro River, along with The Lazy Dog Ranch, are sponsoring an Equestrian Ride on saturday June 7th starting from the Escapule Rd trailhead at 9:00am.
To reach the trail head drive east on Charleston Rd and go right on Escapule Rd to the end. The Ride will last approximately 2-3 hrs and end at the ranch with a barbeque. Cost for the ride and lunch is $10.00. Please call Nancy to register for this event and for more information 456-1362.
