Road Construction

The City of Douglas will be working on various projects over the coming week.  The work is being completed by the City of Douglas Public Works Department and is part of the Mayor and Council’s ongoing infrastructure improvement program.


The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in support of the U.S. Border Patrol is re-grading and lining the channel bottom and slopes with concrete as well as doing service road improvements.  This work will take place on International Avenue between J Avenue to A Avenue and will continue through August 2008.  Please be alert to area detours and barriers.

Monday, June 9 through Friday, June 13, crack-sealing continues between 11th Street and 15th Street from Van Buren to Washington.  Curb and gutter work continues on 8th Street between Rose Avenue and Washington Avenue.  Earthwork and drainage realignment work is still in process on Chino Road.  Please be alert of detours in these areas.

Water main installation continues on Douglas Avenue to Merritt Street.  Fire Hydrant maintenance and water system maintenance continues throughout the city.  Caution should be taken when driving or walking near or around an area where city personnel are flushing & testing fire hydrants.

There will also be other miscellaneous concrete repairs, pothole patching, and graffiti cleanup throughout the city.  If you should have any problems with water and/or sewer services on the weekend or a holiday, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 364-8422 and staff on call will be dispatched to your residence.  The City of Douglas asks that you please use caution while driving or walking through these construction zones.  Please help keep everyone safe.
