The Douglas Police Department released the names of five sexual offenders that are living in Douglas or the surrounding area.

“It is the responsibility of the Chief Law Enforcement Officer, having jurisdiction where the offender resides, to post notification to the community,” said Marcus Gonzalez, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

The individuals in these notifications have been convicted of a sex offense, which allows for community notification.

The offender has advised the Douglas Police Department that he will be living at the given address.

He is not wanted by the police department at this time and he is not on parole.

The notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is the belief of the police department that an informed community is a safer community.

Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass sex offenders will not be tolerated, Gonzalez said.

The Douglas Police Department can be reached at 520-364-8422; 520-364-9422.

The department is available to help start a neighborhood watch program as well as to provide useful information on personal safety.

" It is a shame when adults maliciously hurt innocent children. None is tolerable, yet I wonder about the 16 year old girl who was involved with the adult. Too many times those young teenagers think they are adults are start looking for older men. The men and women should know, but there should be better control by the parents to assure that their children are safe. How unfortunate. "
