DOUGLAS — Wal-Mart Supercenter of Douglas gave $3000 to the Douglas Area Community Fund on Friday, June 20, helping DACF surpass its $50,000 fundraising goal. The gift was presented by Douglas Wal-Mart general manager Miguel Garcia, and will aid DACF in establishing a sustainable, locally-guided charitable fund to benefit the community.

Miguel Garcia, general manager of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Douglas, presents the Douglas Area Community Fund chair, Chuck Hoyack with a check for $3000 on Friday, June 20. Wal-Mart’s donation will assist DACF in building an endowment fund to support the Douglas area.

“Wal-Mart is very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to DACF,” said Garcia. “Our Wal-Mart is proud to serve the Douglas area and we foresee a great future for this community. It’s great to be able to invest in that future.”

By meeting its fundraising goal, DACF will receive an additional $50,000 in matching funds from the Arizona Community Foundation and the Cochise Community Foundation, one of ACF’s 13 affiliates. This funding, as well as any additional pledges and gifts, will allow DACF to create an endowment fund. Once invested, the returns from the fund will provide grants to support youth programs, leadership development and entrepreneurialism in the Douglas area.

“On behalf of the Douglas Area Community Fund Advisory Board, I thank Wal-Mart and Miguel Garcia, as well as all of the other generous members of the community who have contributed to DACF,” said Chuck Hoyack, DACF chair. “Under Mr. Garcia’s leadership, Wal-Mart in Douglas has just been terrific in supporting the community. With the help of Wal-Mart and other community members, we are proud to have met our fundraising goal, and we look forward to developing the framework by which we will invest back into the community.”

The Douglas Area Community Fund is a fund of the Cochise Community Foundation, one of 13 statewide affiliates of the Arizona Community Foundation. DACF is guided by an advisory board of nine local residents: Chuck Hoyack, Lucia Spikes, Morris Eckhardt, Victor Gonzalez, Sister Mary Kirkhoff, Olga Ramirez de Miquez, Pat Ortega, Gerry Gonzalez and Danny Ortega, Jr. ACF is a 501(c)(3) with more than half a billion dollars in assets and a 30-year history of investing in nonprofits to improve the quality of life statewide.
