COCHISE COUNTY – The County Board of Supervisors have approved a solid waste per ton tipping fee increase to take effect on July 1, 2008.

The approval came at the recommendation of the Rate and Review Advisory Board (RRAB), a board made up of representatives from Benson, Bisbee, Douglas, Sierra Vista, Tombstone, Willcox and Cochise County. The RRAB meets to decide rates and policies for the countywide Solid Waste System.

The County Board has approved an $1 increase in disposal fee from $46.50 to $47.50 per ton. This increase in fees will not only cover maintenance of the Regional Solid Waste System but also ensure the County has the funds for the expansion and development of cells 3 and 4 in the Western Regional Landfill.  The increase will also aid in meeting rising transportation and fuel costs.

The countywide disposal fee will go into effect starting July 1, 2008. For more information, contact the County Solid Waste Management Department at 432-9750.
